Statement from Bereaved Parents of Madison’s Board - Return to In Person Meetings
Beginning September 2023, it is Bereaved Parents of Madison’s (BPOM) plan to resume in person monthly support group meetings, in order to best support our members. We recognize that the unexpected tragedy of COVID has upended the way that people meet, communicate, and support each other. We have been glad to offer virtual meetings to continue member support, and we will continue to offer occasional virtual events. We have undergone a detailed analysis from surveying our members, researching options and alternatives, and input from our board, and we believe that in person support group meetings offer the best peer connection and grief support option for our members. We are using the opportunity of change to hold meetings in a new venue, recognizing that the former healthcare setting could be triggering for some members. The new venue will be announced at a later date. At this time, our monthly Rainbow Pregnancies of Madison (RPoM) monthly support group will remain virtual in recognition of the ongoing health risks for pregnant women due to the continuing presence of COVID. We will continue to reevaluate our support group formats and options moving forward to best serve our community and strive to meet our mission.

We are here to support you in your journey and will help in whatever ways we can to honor your choices. We will continue to be a safe place to share your story, regardless of what it is. We firmly believe in supporting all bereaved families. Thinking of everyone during this time.

Mission and Goals

  • Immediate HUGS Support & Ongoing Support for parents who have experienced an early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant death.
  • Resource Provider for families and the community, and the professionals that support them.
  • Education & Outreach for nursing students, health care professionals, and community organizations.
Bereaved Parents of Madison, Inc. provides support and resources to grieving families during and after pregnancy loss, termination, stillbirth, infant death, and subsequent pregnancies by offering personal and group support, as well as programs and events for families. We also provide education and awareness to the community through outreach programs and relationships with area hospitals. We strive to nurture healing and renew hope in these families throughout the grieving process.

History

Since 1974, our group has met monthly in hospitals and private homes, to provide support and share our grief with other parents who "Get it." Our members have suffered the unimaginable: the loss of a child.   Whether it was an early pregnancy loss, termination, stillbirth, in the NICU, or after the child went home, we are here to listen and support you.

The founders of our group donated the first cameras and film to the hospitals to be used for pregnancy and infant loss.  They also lead the way to provide gowns for the babies gone too soon to wear.

Our members are from a variety of cultures, belief systems, and professions.  All parents are welcome.  Through loss, they have come together to support one another during times when others do not know what to say...
